A memorial to Lieutenant Cyril German Danks of the 1st Battalion.  Cyril was wounded in the head at the Battle of Elandslaagte on the 21st October 1899.

After treatment in South Africa he was sent home to recover.  He returned to the UK in March 1900 and was assigned to Aldershot, but soon fell ill with meningitis.  He died on the 31st May 1900 aged 24.

Cyril, whose father was vicar of Morton, was buried in St Paul's Churchyard on the 4th June.  A memorial cross was erected over his grave.
